Building a Business, One Job at a Time
As I sit here watching the rain fall on my first Saturday off in months, I can’t help but reflect on the past 10 months with a deep sense of gratitude. Since starting this journey, I’ve had the privilege of working for some incredible customers across southwest Missouri. While I can’t say it’s always been easy, I’ve loved every minute of owning and operating my own small service business.
There’s a unique kind of satisfaction that comes with building something from the ground up—literally and figuratively. I’ve learned a ton, especially on the business side of things. From estimating jobs and managing schedules to balancing equipment maintenance and customer service, it’s been a whirlwind. But every challenge has made me better, and I’m excited for what the future holds.
My long-term goal over the next 25 years is simple but ambitious: to create a business that provides financial freedom for my family while making a real impact in our community. I want to grow Gurney Excavation into a company that hires local guys and gals, pays above-average wages, and supports our local economy by working with area suppliers and contractors.
I believe in doing business the right way—showing up on time, doing quality work, and treating people with respect. That mindset has helped me build great relationships with customers, and I’m incredibly thankful for the trust they’ve placed in me.
To everyone who’s supported me so far—whether you hired me, referred someone, or even just followed along online—thank you. I’m just getting started, and I’m looking forward to building something we can all be proud of.
If you’re planning a project and want to work with someone who truly cares, I’d love the opportunity to earn your business.
